Honoring America's Veterans

Honoring America’s Veterans

Each November 11th, our nation comes together to observe Veterans Day, a time to honor the many soldiers who have sacrificed so much in defense of our freedom.  We give thanks to the many men and women who have served with honor and valor in our nation’s armed forces. Honoring and caring for our veterans is a sacred duty. When we remember their accomplishments for America and the world, we must always remember what each and every veteran sacrificed.

During this time of war, we must also keep in mind those currently serving in our military both at home and abroad.  Our men and women in uniform have chosen to defend our nation against terrorist attacks and have committed themselves to and have made remarkable sacrifices to defend our way of life and exterminate Islamic terrorists. Because of the dedication and sacrifice of our military, we are achieving success in both Iraq and Afghanistan. We are helping to purge these governments of corruption, rebuild infrastructures and bring healthcare and education to even the remotest areas. Success in both Iraq and Afghanistan will result in strong allies as we continue to fight the War on Terror. America has always had a unique tradition of being liberators, fighting for those we do not know or have not met, to preserve and protect the best of the human condition.

As we take time to thank and remember all those who have served this great country, we must also keep the promises we have made to our nation's veterans as they return home. As a Member of Congress, I am committed to working hard for the veterans in the 19th District of Texas.

The Congress has taken a number of steps that I have supported to ensure those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan receive the care and services they have earned and deserved.  This includes improved health care, with a focus on mental health and traumatic injury recovery, as well as a post 9/11 GI Bill for expanded benefits for those who have served since 9/11, including the ability to transfer unused education benefits to family members.

I will continue to work with local leaders to search for new opportunities to make life easier for those who have sacrificed for this nation.

Thank you and God bless our veterans, those currently serving, and God bless America.

National Veteran’s Awareness Week

The week of November 11 through November 17 is dedicated National Veteran’s Awareness week.

Our nation’s military is asked to do a job that few would do.  A job that requires our unwavering support and vigilant advocacy as a reminder to us all that freedom is not free.  During this week, I encourage all Americans to remember our veterans and their service to our country. Their honor and dedication is a reminder to us all that freedom is not free.
