Rep. Chu Urges for Passage of Paycheck Fairness Act
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-32) joined Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA-08), Democratic Caucus Chair John Larson (CT-01) amongst other Democratic Congressional leaders in supporting Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro’s (CT-03) Paycheck Fairness Act. Members listened to witnesses discuss their personal experiences with wage discrimination and urged for passage of this vital legislation that will end such practices, once and for all. Rep. Chu Applauds Major Federal Contracting Reform
Washington, DC – Last week, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-32) passed major federal contracting reform for small businesses when the House approved a package of eight bills included in the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2013 (NDAA). This package came out of the Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce of which Rep. Chu is the Ranking Member. The reforms increase contracting opportunities for small business and create protections against contracting fraud and abuse. REP. CHU MARKS 130TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT
WASHINGTON, DC – Sunday marks the 130th anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act being signed into law. With the stroke of his pen, President Chester A. Arthur banned all immigration and naturalization into the United States for anyone born in China. Congresswoman Chu has led the fight for an official statement of regret from the U.S. Congress. While her resolution has bipartisan support and an accompanying bill has already passed the Senate unanimously, the House has yet to act. Rep. Chu released the following statement to mark today’s anniversary and to once again call for action:

EL MONTE – Rep. Judy Chu, D-El Monte, joined U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Regional Director Herb K. Schultz, local medical providers and seniors to protest the effect the proposed Republican “Ryan Budget” would have on the Medicare/Medicaid systems during a press conference at the AltaMed PACE Community Clinic in El Monte on Wednesday, May 2, 2012.
REP. CHU ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR CALTECH & JPL
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Chu (CA-32) announced that an additional $88 million has been secured by the full House Appropriations Committee above the funding levels requested by President Obama for the Mars program. Rep. Chu fought against deep cuts proposed in the budget, sending letters and testifying before the House Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee to fight for restoration of this critical funding. REP. JUDY CHU AND TRI-CAUCUS MARK ANNIVERSARY OF LANCE CPL. LEW’S HAZING DEATH WITH LETTER TO ARMED SERVICE COMMITTEE
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, on the one year anniversary of Lance Corporal Harry Lew’s death from hazing, the chairs of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) joined Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-32), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) in sending a letter to the House Armed Services Committee calling for action to prevent hazing. As the Committee drafts the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013, the chairs call for the legislation to make hazing a crime under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, implement a GAO study on each service’s hazing training and prevention policies and develop of a national hazing database to track hazing incidents and report annually to Congress.
