NEUGEBAUER STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA'S DECISION TO BLOCK THE KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) issued the following statement today regarding President Obama’s decision to block construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline:

“Today, President Obama blocked the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, determining that the crucial job-creating project does ‘not serve the national interest.’ This makes no sense. Yet again, the President is proving he does not understand that allowing private industry to work is what our economy needs to get back on track. The Keystone XL Pipeline would have stretched from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, and would have imported 830,000 barrels of oil per day from our Canadian neighbors to Texas refineries. The project would have been privately funded and approving the permit would have created 20,000 jobs (many of those in Texas), generated millions of dollars in economic activity, and enhanced our energy security. At a time when Americans are suffering from high unemployment and high energy prices, this decision is a yet another critical mistake by an out-of-touch Administration.”
