Economy & Jobs

When people envision the American Dream, it includes owning a home, having a good paying job and feeling economically stable. Our current economic state has made this goal more and more elusive for American families. The prices of two essential items for most families - gas and food - have risen sharply in recent months. In the last year, the average price of gasoline has increased by more than $1.00 per gallon while food prices have increased over five percent.

Every person who wants to work deserves the opportunity to work.  They deserve a good, honest wage for the work that they do.  For the small businesses that provide many of these jobs, we need to ensure that they are given an even playing field and not being unnecessarily burdened by red tape or other bureaucratic restrictions.

I believe that the strength of our economy lies in the people and businesses of the United States, not with government policies. At a time like this, I believe Congress should take steps to lower the tax burden on Americans, not increase it. If we want our economy to grow and produce jobs again, we must rely on a vibrant private sector to pull us out of the recession. In order to allow the private sector to thrive the government must spend less, and stop intervening in the private market.
