Tuesday, December 11

  • 10:00 AM: Congressman Yarmuth joins students at Byck Elementary to make holiday cards for the homeless.
  • With the deadline for legislative action on the fiscal cliff looming, Congressman Yarmuth returns to Washington to continue working to reach a balanced approach to deficit reduction that ensures taxes do not go up for working families and the middle class.
  • The House is expected to vote on at least eight measures considered under suspension of the rules.
  • Congressman Yarmuth urges Speaker Boehner to oppose any measure to reduce Social Security benefits as part of ongoing fiscal cliff negotiations. 
  • Visitors to the office include local representatives from the American Printing House for the Blind.
  • The House is expected to vote on legislation to appoint conferees on the National Defense Authorization Act. The House-passed version of the bill authorizes $4 billion more than both the Senate version and the Obama Administration’s request, and $8 billion more than was authorized under the discretionary budget caps of the Budget Control Act of 2011.   

Wednesday, December 12

  • 10:00 AM: The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee holds a hearing on drug testing in the National Football League.
  • 10:00 AM: Congressman Yarmuth speaks with Current TV’s Stephanie Miller about the fiscal cliff.
  • Members of the Democratic Caucus meet to discuss legislative priorities for the week.
  • Visitors to the office include local representatives from the Community Ventures Corporation and the Louisville Regional Airport Authority.
  • The House is expected to vote on a series of bills under suspension of the rules, including H.R. 4053, the Improper Payments Elimination and Recovery Act. This legislation would require the Office of Management and Budget to identify “high-risk” programs and create a government-wide system to prevent federal agencies making excess or unnecessary payments to contactors and individuals.

Thursday, December 13

  • Congressman Yarmuth urges House and Senate Leadership to cut federal nuclear weapon spending as part of a balanced approach to deficit reduction.
  • Visitors to the office include local representatives from the Air Line Pilots Association and Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
  • The House is expect to consider a series of bills under suspension of the rules, including legislation to eliminate the requirement that financial institutions send annual privacy notices to their customers, if their privacy policies have not changed in previous year.
