Committees

Much of the work that goes into crafting laws and overseeing government operations takes place in committees.  I chose to serve on the following committees so that I could work directly on the issues that will help provide economic security for Louisville families and restore the American Dream for future generations.

  • Committee on the Budget
    • With the nation facing record deficit’s and debt, while also facing the most serious financial challenges in decades, the budget will be key to revitalizing our economy and building a strong foundation for future generations.  The Committee analyzes the President’s budget recommendations and reconciles it with Congressional priorities to craft legislation that will chart all federal government expenditures.

  • Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
    • The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform oversees all federal agencies and is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. During the 112th Congress, the Committee will be responsible for evaluating the federal government’s efforts to revitalize our economy, regulate the financial industry, implement the new health care law, and review ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
    • As a member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Congressman Yarmuth also serves on the Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations as well as the Subcommittee on TARP, Financial Services, and Bailouts of Public and Private Programs. The Subcommittee on TARP, Financial Services, and Bailouts of Public and Private Programs has oversight jurisdiction over financial and monetary policy as well as policies regulating the banking, insurance, and housing industries. The Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense, and Foreign Operations focuses on reviewing the utility and effectiveness of security operations at home and abroad.

  • Committee on Ethics
    • The Ethics Committee has jurisdiction over all Members, officers, House employees, bills, resolutions, and other matters related to the House’s Code of Official Conduct. The Committee establishes and enforces the Code of Official Conduct, investigates alleged violations and recommending penalties for breaches of House rules.
