Heinrich Statement on Latest Republican Messaging Gimmicks

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) released the following statement today following the vote on, H.R. 6365, the so-called “National Security and Job Protection Act:”

“This political gimmick by the House Republicans actually prohibits a balanced approach to real deficit reduction and is a tacit endorsement of the Ryan Budget.  It would literally prohibit the president from including any revenue increases to replace the sequester and bring down the deficit.  While New Mexicans are calling on Congress to reduce the deficit using a balanced approach, the House Republicans insist on playing their political games.

“I reaffirm my commitment to reduce the deficit using a balanced approach that includes asking the richest among us to pay their fair share.  This must be a part of any serious discussion to bring down the deficit and strengthen our economy.”

The bill, which is the latest phony messaging bill offered by the House Republicans, passed by a partisan vote of 233-196.
