Visiting Troops In Afghanistan

Heinrich visiting troops in Afghanistan

On June 2, 2010, U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) returned from a bipartisan congressional delegation (CODEL) trip to Afghanistan. The purpose of the trip was to observe and assess the progress being made in Afghanistan.

The delegation spent most of its fact-finding trip in Kabul and Kandahar and was one of the first Congressional delegations in years to have visited Kandahar City.

“One highlight of the trip was getting to talk with the brave service members and civilians from New Mexico who are serving in Afghanistan,” said Rep. Heinrich. “They continue to provide a tremendous service to our country and my meetings in Afghanistan only reinforce that belief.”

Rep. Heinrich, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, met with military and diplomatic leaders in the region, U.S. troops and humanitarian workers from New Mexico, and conducted oversight of additional forces in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and International Security Assistance Forces.

Rep. Heinrich was accompanied by five other congressmen: Representatives Larry Kissell (D-NC), Frank Kratovil (D-MD), John Kline (R-MN), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), and David Reichert (R-WA).
