Myrick Votes to Cut, Cap and Balance Government Spending

(Washington, DC)– Today, US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) voted in favor of HR 2560, The Cut, Cap and Balance Act.

The Cut, Cap and Balance Act would cut and cap federal spending, and require the passage of a balanced budget amendment in both the House and Senate before increasing the nation’s debt limit.

“It’s the government’s responsibility to act as responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, and Congress must stop operating as if there is an unlimited amount of money to spend,” Rep. Myrick said. “There’s no such thing as government money. Government money is taxpayer money. We can’t simply raise the debt limit without addressing the real problem – government spends too much”.

The Cut, Cap and Balance Act would cut FY 2012 spending by $111 billion; cap federal spending as a percentage of GDP at 22.5% in FY 2012 and decrease it to 19.9% by FY 2021; and require the passage of a balanced budget amendment in the House and Senate before raising the nation’s debt limit.

Rep. Myrick is an original cosponsor of the Cut, Cap and Balance Act, and spoke today on the House Floor in support of its passage. It passed in the House with a vote of 234 - 190. It will be sent to the Senate for further consideration.
