Myrick Votes For JOBS

(Washington, DC)–US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) today voted in favor of the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act, which passed in the House by a vote of 390-23.

The JOBS Act consists of six bipartisan bills that cut red tape and give small businesses, startups and entrepreneurs the certainty they need to grow and create jobs.

“Small business owners and the work that they do are the backbone of our country,” Rep. Myrick said. “They generate 60 percent of the jobs in our country, and have created nearly 40 million jobs since 1980. That’s success. The President supports this bill, and I hope it finds quick passage in the Senate so that job creators can put our country back to work”.

The six bills included in The JOBS Act are:

  • HR 3606 – Opens capital markets for small and medium-sized businesses by removing barriers to going public;
  • HR 2940 – Gives small business owners access to new markets by allowing them to use advertisements to reach new investors;
  • HR 2930 – Allows entrepreneurs to raise capital from a large group of small investors;
  • HR 1070 – Gives businesses the opportunity to go public by increasing the threshold for SEC registration from $5 million to $50 million;
  • HR 2167 – Offers growth opportunities to small businesses by raising the shareholder threshold for mandatory SEC registration;
  • HR 4088 – Increases small business access to capital by allowing more shareholders to invest in community banks.
