Myrick Statement on Passage of TRAIN Act

(Washington, DC) – Today, US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) voted in favor of the Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts to the Nation (TRAIN) Act.

This bill will require an interagency committee to assess the combined impacts of recent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations on US job creation, global competitiveness and utility prices.

“The TRAIN Act will shed light on the true costs of the EPA’s regulatory agenda,” Rep. Myrick said. “I continue to hear from businesses of all sizes thatare concerned about the costs of complying with various EPA regulations.  These costs will be passed on to consumers in the form of higher energy prices and will hinder job creation.  Forcing the federal government to examine potential job loss and other impacts of new regulations is the least we can do if our goal is to spur American job growth.”

In addition to an in-depth report on these regulations, the TRAIN Act will also delay the implementation of the EPA’s Utility MACT rule and new transport rule until their impact, in conjunction with other regulations, can be fully examined.

The TRAIN Act passed in the House by a vote of 249-169. It will be sent to the Senate for further consideration.
