Myrick Statement on Passage of Omnibus Spending Bill

(Washington, DC)– Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) has released the following statement after passage of the Conference Report for remaining FY 2012 Appropriations:

“I’m glad that we’re done with short-term Continuing Resolutions and have actually addressed spending for the remainder of the fiscal year. While the process wasn’t ideal, we were able to get non-defense spending down to 2008 levels and eliminate 42 unnecessary government programs. But enough is enough. It’s been 961 days since the Senate has passed a budget, and while FY 2012 has been resolved, what we passed today is no substitute for a real budget.

“Now it is time for Congress to tackle the real problem.  We must enact a budget plan that addresses our nation’s $1.3 trillion annual deficit and $15 trillion in debt. Refusing to do so is unacceptable. We must properly use the budget process and stop spending money we don’t have. Our job is to be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, and the American people deserve better”.
