(WASHINGTON, DC)– Today, US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) voted in favor of the FY 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 299-120. The bill provides pay, funding and authorities for our men and women in uniform, and is the primary way by which Congress provides for the common defense.

“This bill adequately funds our armed services while understanding our nation’s current budget constraints,” Rep. Myrick said. “The first priority of the United States government is to ensure national security, and we are able to do that through the provisions passed today”.

The FY13 NDAA passed today:

• Provides a 1.7% troop pay increase, and extends bonuses and special pay
• Prevents new TRICARE fees proposed by President Obama
• Places restrictions and qualifications on funding to Pakistan
• Requires the President to notify Congress of any planned force reductions in Afghanistan
• Reinforces the US commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons
• Reaffirms US support for Middle Eastern allies, including Israel
• Includes the Right to Habeas Corpus Act, preventing the indefinite detention of US citizens
• Supports a robust domestic missile defense program
• Reforms Defense Department contracting and promotes additional competition
• Addresses federal government information technology supply chain concerns relating to Chinese state-owned and government-affiliated telecommunications companies
