House Passes FY 2013 Intelligence Authorization Act

(Washington, D.C.) – Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) today voted in favor of HR 5743, the FY 2013 Intelligence Authorization Act. This bill authorizes appropriations for conducting intelligence-related activities by the intelligence community.

“The Intelligence Authorization Act is how Congress provides oversight of the intelligence community,” said Rep. Myrick, Chairman of the Intelligence Committee’s Subcommittee on Terrorism, Human Intelligence, Analysis and Counterintelligence. “Recognizing our current budgetary constraints, this bill reigns in spending, sustains current capabilities and invests in future activities to ensure the safety and security of the United States”.

Also included in the Intelligence Authorization Act is an amendment introduced by Rep. Myrick to address supply chain security. The amendment requires the Director of National Intelligence to provide a report to Congress on foreign suppliers of information technology with ties to foreign governments, and the vulnerabilities that exist within U.S. telecommunications networks due to products produced by these suppliers.
