Fitzpatrick Continues Push for "Danny Mac" Legislation

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08) applauded the Senate's passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by a vote of 98-0 which included as an amendment his Daniel McIntosh Public Safety Officers Benefits legislation.
"I am pleased to see the Senate join me in advancing this important legislation to provide the families of our fallen heroes with the benefits they deserve and to ensure the long-term stability and security of the PSOB program," said Fitzpatrick.
The Senate version of the NDAA containing the "Danny Mac" provisions will now be sent to a joint committee of the House and Senate before final passage and approval of the White House.
"I also would like to thank Senators Toomey and Casey for their support throughout this process. There remains much work to be done, but I am hopeful that together we will succeed in providing this important benefit to families across the country."
Due to an oversight in the laws governing the Public Safety Officers Benefits program, families of first responders like Daniel McIntosh of Bensalem have been denied the death benefit they deserve. Congressman Fitzpatrick has introduced the Daniel McIntosh Act to correct this oversight.
In order to promote long-term financial stability of the PSOB program, Fitzpatrick's legislation streamlines the administration of the program to ensure that money goes to beneficiaries and not bureaucrats. It also clarifies how the benefits are distributed and claims are processed to minimize lengthy and costly litigation.
