Committee Assignments

Budget Committee

Congressman Flores is a member of the House Budget Committee. Best known for its role of drafting and preparing the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget, commonly referred to as the "budget resolution," the Budget Committee is responsible for legislative oversight of the federal budget process, reviewing all bills and resolutions on the budget and monitoring agencies and programs funded outside of the budgetary process. It became a standing committee in 1974 when the basic framework that is used today for congressional consideration of budget policy was established in the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 (the Budget Act). The Budget Committee allows Congressman Flores to use his experience and personal values to influence all budget-related legislation before it reaches the House floor in a responsible, reform-minded manner.

Natural Resources Committee

Congressman Flores is also a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, which considers legislation about American energy production, mineral lands and mining, fisheries and wildlife, public lands, oceans, Native Americans, irrigation and reclamation. Resources includes five subcommittees, in which Flores serves on the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. Some of the goals for the Resources Committee are to promote an all-of-the-above energy plan, to increase America's economic competitiveness and create new jobs, to provide oversight of the Obama administration and to secure our border on federal lands.

Veterans' Affairs Committee

The final committee Congressman Flores is a part of is the Veteran's Affairs Committee. The VA Committee reviews veterans' programs, examines current laws, and reports bills and amendments to strengthen existing laws concerning veterans and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), such as for health care, disability compensation, GI bill education and job training, home loan guarantees, life insurance policies, and a nationwide system of veterans' cemeteries. With such a large population of Veterans and military service members in the 17th District, Congressman Flores is proud to serve on the Veterans Affairs Committee in order to better serve their needs.
