I remain supportive of the goals of the DREAM Act to promote American opportunity by allowing a limited group of young people the opportunity to stay in the U.S. legally by attending college or serving in the Armed Forces. I don’t believe that children willing to abide by our laws and who aspire to college or military service should be penalized for the offenses of their parents. They have much to offer America if given the chance.
However, the President’s unilateral decision is clearly a political move and there are questions as to whether it’s legally defensible. I would like to find a solution through the appropriate channel of Congress that offers certainty to these young men and women who want to contribute to America’s cause.
