Continuing Resolution (CR)

Sen. Murkowski believes that the current CR is a short term solution that will hopefully provide Congress the necessary time for critical negotiations over the federal budget. The Senator hopes that in the coming weeks Congress will pass a full year CR that will contain additional spending cuts the House and Senate members agree upon. Lawmakers in Congress are faced with a critically important debate that will ultimately impact every single American for years to come. The debate over spending levels for the rest of the current fiscal year is forcing Congress to take a long hard look at America’s expenses and determine the best way to tighten the belt of the national economy.

Sen. Murkowski believes that there must be a focus on both sides of the aisle to make sure we fund the government, cut spending wherever we can, and move forward without hurting our ability to grow and create jobs. Lawmakers in Congress are faced with some difficult decisions in order to put a stop to the nation’s growing deficit. Sen. Murkowski will be engaged in the debate in the coming weeks with fellow members, both Republican and Democrat, and believes that a government shutdown would not benefit any American nor Alaskan and can be prevented.

Appropriations & Earmark Moratorium

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye announced that the committee will continue a moratorium on earmarks for the current session of Congress. The moratorium will include all FY13 Appropriations bills.

Senator Murkowski plans to honor Sen. Inouye’s request not to submit earmark requests to the committee, but she still feels it is important to know the needs of Alaska. She believes the best way to get that information is directly from individual Alaskans, so it will be her policy to continue to solicit that information from towns and communities across the state. Many of the funding sources that Alaska relies on are formula-driven, not specific earmarks, so Senator Murkowski, as a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, will work to ensure that Alaska’s interests are protected and the state continues to benefit from federally funded programs.

Previous Appropriations

Above is a map of our State with blue dots representing project funds Sen. Murkowski helped secure for Alaska since 2002. The row of dots on the bottom of the map are funds that benefited the whole state, while the rest of the dots are placed over the communities and areas that benefited the most from the funds. The senator invites you to click on these dots to find more details on each project.
