The Wrong Time to Tax the Middle Class

Dear Fellow Coloradan,
Rebuilding our economy is the single most important issue we face today in Washington, D.C. Although the federal government alone does not create jobs, we have an important role to play in helping businesses be successful.
As we work toward bringing our economy back to full strength, now is not the time to neglect the backbone of our economy: the middle class. It is critical that we in Congress do all we can to protect the middle class and continue working tirelessly to find common ground on this timely issue.
I can proudly say that I supported a bill to extend middle-class tax cuts that will save Colorado families from a $2,000 tax increase next year. The bill passed in the U.S. Senate last week.
Our economy is grown and run on dedicated support from the middle class of America. We can all agree on providing tax relief to these hardworking Americans, but some in Congress are blocking this relief in order to get a better deal for millionaires and billionaires. While Congress debates whether we can afford additional tax breaks for the wealthy - which I believe we cannot - we should at least pass what we can all agree on: middle-class tax relief for 98 percent of all Americans.
The time to act is now. I am urging my colleagues in Congress to work together and pass something we all can agree on, so we can move forward and continue rebuilding this economy from the middle out.
Warm regards,
