H.R. 1380, the NAT GAS Act of 2011

Blue Dog Coalition has endorsed H.R. 1380, the New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions (NAT GAS) Act of 2011. The legislation, which has broad bipartisan support, would pave the way for consumers to change how they power their vehicles by encouraging private investment in natural gas refueling stations and by providing incentives for the production and purchase of natural gas vehicles.

Specifically, the NAT GAS Act of 2011 creates tax incentives to encourage manufacturers to begin building heavy-duty trucks that will be powered by natural gas instead of diesel. It also gives tax incentives to truck-stop owners who install natural gas filling stations. This levels the playing field for natural gas with other fueling technologies that are already subsidized.
