Irene and Isaac

August 28, 2012

A storm called Isaac gained hurricane-strength winds as it churned toward New Orleans on Tuesday exactly one year after a storm called Irene pushed far into northern New England and caused the worst natural disaster in Vermont history.   Vermonters thoughts were with the people of the Gulf Coast as they prepared for Isaac's Tuesday night landfall. Vermonters also have been taking stock in recent days of the massive rebuilding effort across our state during the year since Tropical Storm Irene.

Bells rang out in communities across Vermont at 7 p.m. ET tonight as people gather at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph, Vt., to mark the anniversary of Irene.
