Houston, TX – This week, Rep. John Culberson (TX-07) met with representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Texas District 4 Ceremonial Team in Houston.  The VFW members thanked Rep. Culberson for his continued work on behalf of veterans and to protect their religious freedoms at funerals held at the Houston National Cemetery.

In appreciation the District 4 members presented Rep. Culberson with a signed photo of the Ceremonial Team and a framed plaque recognizing the Congressman “for meritorious and distinguished service in furthering the aims and ideals of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.”

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the District 4 Ceremonial Team,” said Culberson.  “However, I am the one that owes a thank you to them for their tireless dedication to our nation and our community.  Our nation has an obligation to care for our brave soldiers when they return home and to provide for the families of those who gave their lives in service to their country.  I will always do my best to show my respect and appreciation to our veterans by voting to protect their interests.”

Recently, Rep. John Culberson testified before the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs in support of his legislation to prohibit the federal government from interfering with the content of funeral services.  Rep. Culberson filed H.R. 2720, in response to acts of religious censorship at the Houston National Cemetery in 2011.
