Rep. Culberson Cosponsors Preserving Work Requirements for Welfare Programs Resolution

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Culberson is a cosponsor of H.J. Res 18, which expresses disapproval of the Obama administration’s attempt to eliminate the welfare work requirements.  This important bill will be voted on by the full House tomorrow evening. The bill would prevent the administration from weakening the work requirements and preserve critical 1996 welfare reforms that have helped lift millions of American families out of poverty.

This legislation is scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives just as a new report from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, obtained by the Washington Examiner, indicates that the administration’s suspension of a separate welfare work requirement has nearly doubled the number of Americans on food stamps between 2008 and 2010.
