Washington, DC – This week, the Family Research Council’s legislative action group, FRC Action, applauded Rep. John Culberson (TX-07) for his continued work to strengthen families, protect life and defend religious freedom.

Below is a letter from FRC Action Vice President Thomas McClusky:

April 25, 2012

Rep. John Culberson
2352 Rayburn House Office Building
U.S. House of Representatives

Washington, DC 20515

Dear Rep. Culberson:

On behalf of FRC Action, the legislative arm of Family Research Council, and the families we represent, I want to thank you for your efforts to defend human life and protect the family.

As you know, burdens on the family have increased through massive increased budget deficits, the threat of increased taxes as well as through laws such as the Affordable Care Act which takes away family control over health decisions. Additionally, efforts to undermine marriage continue with attempts to gut the Defense of Marriage Act as well as the Administration’s action overturning “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” with virtually no protections for the religious views of military chaplains and soldiers. We applaud your efforts to reign in government spending, keep taxes lower, oppose the government takeover of our health care system and oppose efforts to redefine marriage and undermine religious freedom in the military.

We also thank you for your efforts to defend the most basic of human rights protected by the Bill of Rights, the right to life. We appreciate your efforts to remove government funding of abortion in the health care law and efforts to protect various prolife provisions in the various appropriations bills that prevent government funding elective abortion and that protect conscience rights from government discrimination. A few pro-life provisions were undermined in the previous Congress, yet you supported efforts to restore one of the most egregious anti-life decisions under the previous Congress by restoring the ban on government funding of elective abortion in the nation’s capitol. At that time, it has been reported that the government spent money killing 300 unborn children. Restoring this long-standing abortion funding restriction this past year was a major victory.

As Congress moves forward this year with appropriations bills and other legislation, we encourage your continued efforts to defend the pro-life and pro-family positions that are under attack from this Administration and Senate. We especially encourage your work to overturn this Administration’s mandate on non-church religious organizations to pay for abortifacients, contraception and sterilization in their health plans even if these violate their faith tradition.

We look forward to continuing to work with you to strengthen families, protect life and defend religious freedom. Thank you for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Thomas McClusky
Senior Vice President
