Rep. Berman Introduces Intellectual Property Bill

Washington, D.C. - Today Rep. Berman joined other House leaders in introducing the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2007 (PRO IP Act).  Intellectual property-based industries, which form the core of our economy, are suffering billions of losses due to global piracy and counterfeiting.  Intellectual property theft, both here and abroad, has cost the United States thousands of jobs and is hurting workers.  Furthermore, untested, unhealthy, and unsafe products ranging from medicines to brake pads are making their way into the stream of commerce, often causing injury and death.  To tackle these problems, the PRO IP Act will enhance civil and criminal intellectual property laws, strengthen federal intellectual property enforcement agencies, and increase international enforcement efforts.  These changes will give intellectual property owners and law enforcement the tools they need to more effectively combat the intellectual property theft that threatens our jobs, our economy, and our safety.
