BERMAN SECURES FEDERAL FUNDS TO SPEED
COMPLETION OF NEW EAST VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
Transportation Dollars Pave the Way for Necessary Infrastructure Improvements

Washington, D.C. - At the request of Congressman Howard L. Berman (D-Van Nuys) the House of Representatives has approved $1 million dollars to speed completion of a badly needed new high school in North Hollywood, California.

These funds are included in the Omnibus FY2003 appropriations bill. They will be directed to the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation to be used for infrastructure improvements (such as street widening and signalization) necessitated by the construction of "New East Valley High School 1B" by the Los Angeles Unified School District.

"I am especially pleased to have won these funds for a new high school because education is one of my important priorities and overcrowding makes it very difficult for students to learn." said Berman.

The new high school will provide 1394 new classroom seats and will relieve serious overcrowding at nearby Grant and North Hollywood High Schools. It is immediately adjacent to the North Hollywood Metro Station and NoHo Commons, the ambitious 16.7 acre mixed use urban transit village. New East Valley High School 1B is scheduled to open in 2005.
