Washington, D.C. - Congressman Howard L. Berman (CA-28) issued the following statement about the news that Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and others were shot at a public event this morning in Tucson, AZ.

"I was shocked and saddened to learn about the tragic attack against my colleague and friend Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, her dedicated staff, and constituents.  Through my work with Congresswoman Giffords on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I have seen firsthand her exceptional work and dedication on behalf of the people of Arizona.  Over the coming days and weeks there will be much discussion of the implications of this horrendous attack, but today I am focused on keeping the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in my thoughts and praying for the recovery of all those who were injured."
