Congresswoman Jenkins reading to students at St. Paul Elementary in St. Paul, KS
With an increasingly competitive global economy, our places of higher education will become even more crucial in equipping the next generation work force. A high quality education, from elementary school to higher education, is important to each student and critical to our nation’s future. Education is not one-size-fits-all, and I firmly believe that the people best equipped to make decisions about a child’s education are the parents, teachers, and administrators at a local level. As a parent of two children being educated in Kansas public schools, I have great faith in Kansas’ education system, and have worked hard my entire career to strengthen it.
Education is critical to the economic well-being of our country and the future prosperity of our children. Making higher education more accessible and affordable for students and families is a priority of mine. The universities and colleges in the Second District contribute greatly to their communities and the entire state in terms of research and economic development. The price-tag for higher education has increased significantly in recent years. We need to make certain all students are able to afford a higher education degree. There are grants, federal student loans, and competitive scholarships available to students, and it is important for students and families to know all options that are available to pay for school.
