Myrick Votes To Save Jobs In North Carolina

(Washington, DC)– Today, US Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) voted in favor of The EPA Regulatory Relief Act (HR 2250), a bill that will save thousands of jobs in North Carolina, and as many as 230,000 jobs nationwide.

The EPA Regulatory Relief Act, introduced by Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC), halts the implementation of the controversial Boiler MACT rule, which requires businesses and manufacturers to replace or retrofit existing boilers and incinerators to comply with new emission standards. The bill also requires the EPA to reissue new rules that are achievable by businesses and manufacturers.

Based on a recent study, the Boiler MACT rule is estimated to cost North Carolina businesses over $1 billion and almost 17,000 jobs – more than any state in the country.

“The effects of the Boiler MACT rule are especially troublesome given the difficulty many businesses are having when trying to access capital – and for many, just trying to stay afloat and not lay off their employees,” Rep. Myrick said. “This bill is one of many that will spur job growth by decreasing burdensome government regulations, and I’m glad that the House moved past partisan labels to pass this important legislation”.

The EPA Regulatory Relief Act passed in the House with bipartisan support by a vote of 275-142. It will be sent to the Senate for further consideration.
