Americans to House GOP – Time to Move on from Partisan Repeal of Patient Protections and Address Jobs: News of the Day

Jul 10, 2012 Issues: Labor, Health Care

House Republicans will waste another week to hold their 31st vote to take away new health care rights and patient protections this week rather than working on creating jobs and preventing the outsourcing of American jobs. Since the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, the American people are saying it’s time to move on from these partisan battles.

According to a poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation, 56 percent of respondents said that it is time for Washington Republicans to “stop their efforts to block the law and move on to other national problems.” And, today, the Washington Post reported that their latest poll that only 20 percent of all registered voters want to take away new patient protections from the American people.

The message is clear: It’s time to move on. But, Washington Republicans are ignoring this message and continue to spread falsehoods about the law. In yesterday's Washington Post, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Service Kathleen Sebelius penned an op-ed to set the record straight.

People are entitled to their opinions, but not to their own facts. And the facts in this case are clear: Since the Affordable Care Act was passed, national health spending is rising at a slower rate, health insurance premiums are rising at a slower rate, small-business coverage is holding steady and Medicare is on a stronger financial footing.

Congress needs to stop wasting time refighting these old political battles and move forward on real solutions to grow and strengthen our nation’s middle class.
