Small Businesses
As a former small business owner, I recognize the importance of small businesses in strengthening communities and bolstering economic growth and job creation.
I have been successful in championing our small businesses and coordinating with federal agencies to create public-private partnerships and job opportunities for the people of southern West Virginia. In tough economic times, I have supported Federal programs that have proven successful in providing small businesses with access to inexpensive credit, loans, procurement and technical assistance, and recovery assistance in the case of natural disasters. I also have strived to level the playing field for small businesses, especially in rural areas, so that they can compete not only with bigger companies, but also with foreign rivals in a global economy.
I have consistently supported Federal policies to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship that would help small businesses in West Virginia and throughout the Nation to prosper and thrive. I also have been active and vocal in pressing to tamp down onerous tax and regulatory burdens in various sectors of our economy. When it comes to energy, for example, I am fighting to ensure that coal remains a critical component of our Nation’s energy supply, providing affordable energy for businesses and residents.
I regularly meet with small business owners and I encourage you to let me know your views. I believe strongly that small business owners must have a voice in the formulation of laws and regulations that will affect them.
