PENCE HONORS LIFE OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Congressman Pence with Royce and Joyce Mitchell on MLK Day 2008

Washington, Jan 19 - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence honored the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today with the following statement:

“While we do not choose the length of our days, we can determine how we live the days that are given us.

“In the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we are reminded of this timeless truth and we are inspired by an example of a life committed to equal opportunity, although tragically and brutally cut short. Dr. King did not choose the place nor the means of his death, but he chose to live a noble life, given to the cause of liberty and justice.

“His life was an inspiration to millions and a formative influence in my own.

“How fitting that as our nation takes time today to remember the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that we are on the cusp of the inauguration of our nation’s first African-American President: Barack Obama.

“May God bless the memory of the Dr. King, and may God bless America.”
