Langevin Statement on Attack in Libya

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, released the following statement in response to the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi that killed U.S. Ambassador to Libya John Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

“I am both outraged and deeply saddened by the violence committed against our diplomats and join the Administration and my colleagues in strongly condemning the attacks. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims.

“It is disappointing to see this tragedy used for political theater at a time when we need to stand united in support of the men and women representing us around the world and honor Ambassador Stevens and his colleagues. I support the Administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting our interests in the area and not allowing these terrorists to set back our efforts in Libya, while at the same time relentlessly pursuing justice for the victims. We are grateful to the Libyan leaders and security forces who tried to stop the attack and who are working with us to punish those responsible.”
