ON THE PASSING OF DR. DOROTHY I. HEIGHT

first-person statement from
Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay (D) Missouri

“Dr. Dorothy Height inspired four generations of Americans to believe that the promises enshrined in the Constitution would one day be fulfilled for all people.  She was a champion in the advancement of equal rights for African Americans and women, and her courage gave hope to millions of Americans. 

I was privileged to know her as a friend and mentor, and I am mindful that my generation of leaders is standing on the shoulders of giants…none stood taller than her. 

Dorothy Height’s grace, courage and unyielding commitment to the struggle for justice in this country will continue to inspire the generations to come.  We thank God for the great blessing of her remarkable life.”
