Congressional Art Competition

The Seventh Congressional District Art Competition gives high school students from across the eight-counties in the district the opportunity to exhibit their artwork.  Each county then submitted its top four finalists to compete in the district finals in a field narrowed down to 32 students district-wide.  The 32 pieces of art were judged by nine judges to determine the final four winners.  The top four finalists were announced on Friday, April 20th at the Ohio Glass Museum in Lancaster. They are as follows:

·         This year's first-place winner was Samantha Slone from Tecumseh High School in Clark County.

·         Second-place was awarded to Makyah Snider of Sheridan High School in Perry County.

·         Third-place was awarded to Kyle Morgan of Miami Trace High School in Fayette County.

·         Fourth-place was awarded to Haley Horsley of Greeneview High School in Greene County.

The winner of the art competition has their artwork on display in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with the winning artwork from other Congressional Art Competitions from across the nation. The first-place winner of the art show also wins a trip to Washington D.C. to attend the official Art Competition reception and see his or her work hung in the tunnel.

Congratulations and much thanks to all the students who participated in the 2012 competition.
