Taxes and Spending
I believe that working together in a bipartisan fashion is the only we will make meaningful reforms that put our nation on a path towards long-term economic growth and stability. Whether it is closing tax loopholes, eliminating subsidies, reforming our antiquated tax code, or reining in spending - I believe that Washington must take action to get our nation back on track.
Legislation I support:
• I was the first freshman to pass a bill. H.R. 830, the FHA Refinance Program Termination Act was passed with bipartisan support and terminates a wasteful FHA program that saves taxpayers over $8 billion in government spending.
• I am a support of H.J. Res. 2, a balanced budget proposal. Every family in America must live on a budget, and I believe that Washington should do the same. That is why I support a balanced budget that would empower Washington to pay down its debt and make the government start living within its means.
• I voted to cut the House’s own legislative budget by 5% in FY 2011, and an additional 6.4% in FY 2012.
• I voted for the House FY 2012 Budget resolution which closes tax loopholes and eliminates wasteful subsidies.
• I support a reasoned approach to spending. Washington has mismanaged the expansion of government, so we must make sure we do not mismanage the reduction of it.
• In the House, I led the effort to save $2.5 billion in future Defense Department spending by eliminating the wasteful second engine program for the F-35 joint strike fighter.
• I voted to rein in defense spending by $21.9 billion from FY 2011 levels. I also signed a letter encouraging the Department of Defense to save $4-6 billion by improving their supply chain management.
