Congressman Cantor Volunteers At Central Virginia Food Bank With Governor McDonnell & Congressman Scott

RICHMOND, VA – Today, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) joined Governor Bob McDonnell, First Lady Maureen McDonnell and Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) to volunteer at the Central Virginia Food Bank:

Congressman Cantor said, “The Central Virginia Food Bank does more than fight hunger. They provide real relief, hope and opportunity to the most vulnerable in our region. Today, I was proud to join Governor Bob McDonnell and Congressman Bobby Scott to take part in advancing the food bank'smission to make sure struggling moms and dads can put food on the table, kids have access to healthy meals and seniors receive the care they need. When people are in trouble or facing tough times, it’s an opportunity for neighbors and communities to step up and provide a helping hand. That’s why I was so pleased to be here today and see that individuals can make a difference in others lives. Especially as we celebrate Thanksgiving, we must remember that we can all do our part to help those in need.”

Congressman Scott said, "I am pleased to be joining Governor McDonnell and Congressman Cantor in giving back to our community this Thanksgiving. Here in the greater Richmond area, the Central Virginia Food Bank is positively impacting lives by providing meals to those who would otherwise have to go without. This is all made possible by the generous donations of time, money, and food from the people right here in the greater Richmond area who understand that caring for one another is essential to the betterment of our community. Making sure that we provide for the least of us should be our number one priority in Washington as we work towards addressing our serious fiscal issues. I commend the Central Virginia Food Bank, their dedicated volunteers, and all those who have donated for being an excellent example of service to our neighbors in need."

Governor McDonnell said, “I was pleased to join together with Congressman Cantor and Congressman Scott to volunteer today at the Central Virginia Food Bank. Food banks are vitally important organizations that help people in need put food on their tables. They need our support more than ever. During the Thanksgiving season, and throughout the year, it is imperative that we remember those who need assistance and extend a helping hand to our fellow Virginians. I want to encourage all Virginians to support their local food bank, whether it's by volunteering at a local facility, donating food items, or providing monetary support.”
