Congressman Cantor Urges Senate Democrats To Stop Playing Politics On STEM Visa Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) released the following statement in response to Senate Democrats’ decision to block the House-passed STEM Jobs Act:

“We can meet everyone’s goals of spurring economic growth and making progress on immigration reform by passing the STEM Jobs Act. Instead, Senate Democrats have decided to play politics, rather than taking up the House bill which members of both parties supported last week. Our common sense solution allocates visas to the American-educated, foreign-born STEM graduates who have the greatest potential to help grow our economy, and helps reunite immigrant families stuck on government waiting lists. Every foreign STEM worker employed by an American business creates, on average, three new jobs. We have already invested in educating these foreign students, now we need to pass STEM visa reform to ensure that American businesses have access to the best talent in the world. The President has said he supports STEM visa reform. Senate Democrats should get behind the House bill to drive our economy and give more immigrants greater opportunities in America.”
