  1. I’m very proud of my son Sam for being named the Athlete of the Week. He works hard on the field and in the classroom, and it’s paying off for him. We’ll have to settle this game of HORSE dispute over the holidays, but it’ll be a lot closer than he thinks.

Please see what you can do to eliminate any federal spending that does not directly support American taxpayers, especially by eliminating foreign aid when we can't pay our own bills. Thank you.

  3. It was a great morning in Middletown as Westside Family Healthcare opened its brand new location. Westside and Delaware’s other federally qualified health centers provide access to quality, affordable care for the uninsured and underinsured in our state. Thank you to Lolita Lopez and her tremendous staff for bringing this service to Middletown’s growing community.

  4. This weekend, I stopped by the Wilmington Urban League’s annual Men of Color Health Summit. Delaware has made great progress in reducing some health disparities, including eliminating the disparity in colorectal cancer screenings. But, there is still much work to be done. It was nice to see so many friends and community leaders lending their time to help more people in our community get the quality care they deserve.

  5. The holidays are coming up fast. If you're out this weekend, don't forget to shop small. And, if you message me a photo of your receipt from one of our state's local businesses, you'll be entered to win lunch for two with me either in Delaware or DC. Good luck!
  6. Today marks the 225th anniversary of Delaware becoming the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution and join our great nation.

Delaware’s founding fathers saw the vision and genius of the form of government laid out in the Constitution. In fact, Delaware’s own Gunning Bedford, Jr. was instrumental in helping smaller states protect their own interests by establishing a body, the U.S. Senate,...
that ensures equal representation for all.

December 7th is also the anniversary of one of the darkest days in our nation’s history, the attack on Pearl Harbor. As we go about our day, let us take a moment to honor those members of America’s Greatest Generation that were killed 71 years ago in service to their nation, as well as the veterans and active duty military members of all eras that sacrifice so much for the freedoms and values outlined in our Constitution.

  7. Today, I signed a discharge petition in an attempt to force a vote in the House on an extension of the middle-class tax cuts before they expire at the end of the year. With 218 signatures, that vote will happen.

The debate surrounding the fiscal cliff is not related to the middle-class tax cuts -- it’s related to extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and hard choices about where to cut...
spending. Almost everyone agrees that an extension of the current tax rates for 98 percent of Americans is the right policy moving forward. The disagreement is on what the tax rates should be for incomes over $250,000 a year, which only affects two percent of earners.

I am hopeful that we can find 25 Republicans to join us in signing this petition. There is much more that needs to be done to pass a comprehensive fiscal plan, but this is one area on which the vast majority of my colleagues agree.

  8. Even though Small Business Saturday is over, local shops still need your support. And don't forget, if you message me a photo of your receipt from a Delaware small business, you could win lunch for you and a guest with me either here in Delaware or in the Capitol.

  9. This morning, Rep. Jim Renacci, a Republican from Ohio, and I organized our first bipartisan policy meeting since the election. Our group -- divided evenly among Democrats and Republicans -- meets every other week to brainstorm legislation ...
and try to find common ground. We had great turnout today and took the opportunity to hash out our priorities for the upcoming Congress. If you're not familiar with the group, you can read about it in this short article from 2011.

  10. Brisk fall evening in Washington -- a full moon is illuminating the already bright Capitol dome. I'm reinvigorated after the Thanksgiving holiday and planning to put in some serious hours over the next few weeks to avoid the fiscal cliff.

  11. Yesterday, I visited Lake Forest High School to help kickoff College Application Week. This week, representatives from Delaware’s colleges and universities are available at Lake Forest to give students hands-on assistance in completing the...
ir applications to college. Many of the students I talked to realized that education beyond a high school level is critical to qualify for the jobs of the future. College Application Week is a tremendous opportunity for the students to get started down this path, and it looked like many of them were taking advantage of it.

cil. This Center will attract top talent in the field to our state, and most importantly, will provide students at Delaware State University and the University of Delaware with learning opportunities that simply weren’t possible until now.

  13. Still a few hours left on Small Business Saturday. Remember that if you shop at a locally-owned store and send me a photo of the receipt, either on my Timeline or through a Facebook message, you'll be entered to win lunch for you and a guest with me. I hope to see a lot of receipts coming my way soon.
  14. SMALL BUSINESS RAFFLE:
Since today is the kick-off to the holiday shopping season, I want to provide an extra incentive to encourage Delawareans to support their local small businesses. Starting now, any Delawarean that shops at a locally-owned small business and posts a photo of their receipt to my Facebook timeline, will be entered to win lunch for you and a guest with me either in Delaware or ...
the Members' Dining Room in the Capitol (travel accommodations not included). Just a few rules: 1) Entrants must be Delaware residents, 2) The store’s name and the date must be visible on the receipt (no need to include personal info or how much was spent), and 3) Multiple entries are encouraged, but each entry must have a different receipt. The raffle is open until 12/24. I’ll announce the winner during the last week of December. Good luck and don’t forget that tomorrow is Small Business Saturday.

  15. Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for good health, my wonderful family and friends, and the honor of serving the people of Delaware. What are you thankful for today?
  16. Yesterday was one of my favorite events for this time of year: the Turkey Give-A-Way in Wilmington. I've been participating for about 12 years and have never seen as many volunteers or donated turkeys as I did yesterday. We all have a lot to be thankful for, and the turkey drive is a great way to show our appreciation and give back to those in our community who are less fortunate.
