- Rep. McKinley Introduces Bipartisan Resolution Opposing Carbon Tax on American Businesses and Families.
Washington, D.C.—Rep. David B. McKinley (R-WV), backed by strong bipartisan support, introduced a resolution opposing a federal carbon tax on fuels for electricity and transportation which was similarly included in the Cap and Trade legislation of 2009.
“Given our current economic climate, t......his is the worst time to implement another tax on coal, oil and gas—industries that fuel our economy,” said Rep. McKinley. “Affordable and abundant electricity from coal and natural gas is essential to our way of living and a carbon tax would increase the cost of electricity and put a financial burden on American families.”See More
“Congress rejected Cap and Trade legislation in 2009,” noted McKinley. “The principal argument continues to be that a carbon tax would increase the cost of everything from driving a car to heating and cooling a home.”
Rep. McKinley’s resolution was introduced with the support of Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Emeritus Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY), Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH), Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV), Rep. Tim Holden (D-PA), Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) and Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL).See More
