Art Competition

An Artistic Discovery

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, co-chaired in 2012 by Congressman Hansen Clarke. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district.

The Artistic Discovery Contest is open to high school students who are residents of or attend school in the 13th Congressional District of Michigan. The over-all winner of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners nation-wide.

The Congressional Art Competition is a national exhibition coordinated by Members of Congress. Since its inception in 1982, the competition has recognized nearly 4,500 local contests and 650,000 high school students. The winning artwork from each Congressional District is displayed in the Cannon Tunnel, which is a walkway leading to the U.S. Capitol.
