WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today released the following audio statement after announcing the U.S. Department of Agriculture will allow haying of Conservation Reserve Program lands designated “CP25” for the first time ever in response to historic drought. Grazing of CP25 lands was previously approved:
“This is Senator Pat Roberts. I’m pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is now allowing haying of Conservation Reserve program lands. This applies to lands designated ‘CP25’ for the first time ever – in response to this historic drought.
“Grazing of these lands has already been approved – and now this approval of haying is much needed.
“I applaud USDA for taking this step to help producers suffering from the drought. It is just commonsense.
“Many producers were unable to graze these lands due to lack of fencing, access to water and other factors. This action will bring immediate relief to livestock producers across the country.”
