OTISVILLE, N.Y. -- Friends, family, and co-workers say a final goodbye to former Orange County Sheriff Frank Bigger.

A funeral mass was held Friday morning in Otisville at the Holy Name of Jesus RC Church.

Bigger died last Saturday at the age of 79 from ongoing health complications.

People who knew him well spoke about his character.

Rep. Nan Hayworth said, "This is his home. He was a dedicated public servant, and he has a wonderful family with deep roots in this community. This is a great loss for them, but he will leave a full legacy as well."

Orange County Sheriff Carl E. DuBois said, "In Frank's 40-plus years of police work, he met a lot of people, made a lot of friends. He touched a lot of people out there. I think this is a day where everyone can think about those good memories and think about a real positive man."

Bigger was buried with military honors at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Warwick. He's survived by his wife, seven children, 24 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren.
