Hayworth cites volunteer firefighters, EMS volunteers, O&R crew, anti-terror unit.

A group of Rockland County emergency first-responders, including several who survived a West Haverstraw natural gas blast that leveled a home, are to be recognized by U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth for their public service.

“The past year brought many trials and challenges to our first responders,” said Hayworth, R-Mount Kisco. “I'm happy to join all of our neighbors in the Hudson Valley in thanking the men and women who staff our emergency services. They are our first line of defense for homeland security, too. Our police, fire and EMS personnel put themselves at risk every day to serve their communities, and they deserve recognition for their courage, valor and service.”

Hayworth said she will be awarding Special Congressional Commendations to first-responders who have distinguished themselves for exceptional acts of bravery or services. The presentation is set for Tuesday, May 22 at the Orange County Emergency Services Center in Goshen.

The Rockland County honorees are:

- Firefighter Lee Stipek, Orange & Rockland Utilities
- Firefighter Kenneth Patterson, West Haverstraw Volunteer Fire Department
- Firefighter Jerry Knapp, West Haverstraw Volunteer Fire Department
- The West Haverstraw Volunteer Fire Department
- The Haverstraw Volunteer Ambulance Corps
- Rockland Mobile Care Paramedics
- The Rockland County Anti-Terrorism Analytical Group
