Mid Hudson News: Kid's Safety Day draws large audience

EAST FISHKILL – Police in East Fishkill had such a large number of parents and children for kids’ identity kits that they didn’t think they would be able to process them all by the end of the day this weekend.

The setting was Congresswoman Nan Hayworth’s Kids Safety Day at town hall held Saturday.

Police Officer Ralph Bellino said children are fingerprinted, photographed and videoed with the data and a personal description all placed on a CD provided to the parents.

“They can take that disc anywhere,” Bellino said. They can on vacation and if their child is missing, they can provide the disc to police and “one button and everybody has the information instantly.”

Police and fire departments across the region hold periodic children’s ID kit preparation sessions for parents.
