Bordallo to Address High School Students at Close Up Youth Summit This Week

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the Close Up Foundation will be conducting a three-day Youth Summit for local high school students from October 10 to 12 at the Guam Marriott hotel. Close Up is a Washington-based non-profit civic education organization that educates and inspires young people to become informed and active citizens and help students develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to engage in our democracy.

HHS Awards Guam $408,960 in Social Services Grants

The Congresswoman today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Guam a total of $408,960 in social services grants to Pa’a Taotao Tano’ and the Farm to Table-Guam Corp. Funds were awarded through the Administration for Children and Families/Administration for Native Americans Office of Discretionary Grants.

Statement on Taiwan’s Inclusion in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program

The Congresswoman today issued the following statement regarding the announcement from the Department of Homeland Security that Taiwan was approved for inclusion in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. This program allows travelers to visit the U.S for tourism and business purposes for up to 90 days without a visa. Taiwan’s inclusion in the program will be effective on November 1, 2012.

HHS awards Guam $416,667 to Educate Teens on Pregnancy, STIs

The Congresswoman today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded Guam Department of Education $416,667 to support projects that educate adolescents and young adults on both abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS. This Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) grant, which was established through the Affordable Care Act, will be used to educate youth, between the ages of 10 to 19, and pregnant and parenting youth, under age 21, on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS.
