Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $ 286,365 to Guam Department of Public Works/Office of Highway Safety. The funds were awarded through the DOT’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This State and Community Highway Safety grant may be used for problems that arise within the nine national priority program areas of alcohol and other drug countermeasures, police traffic services, occupant protection, traffic records, emergency medical services, motorcycle safety, pedestrian/bicycle safety, speed control and roadway safety.

“These funds will be used to support highway safety programs aimed at reducing traffic fatalities on our island,” said Congresswoman Bordallo. “I look forward to the Guam Department of Public Works’ implementation of these funds in increasing the safety of Guam’s roadways for our visitors and our local community.”
