Congressman Alexander Encourages Public to Send "Holiday Mail for Heroes"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Jamie Hanks | (202) 225-8490

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, encourages the American public to send “Holiday Mail for Heroes” this holiday season.

Now in its sixth year, the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes Inc. have united once again to ensure our soldiers stationed both in the United States and around the world will receive heartfelt wishes during the holidays.  Last year, the program distributed approximately one million cards to our service members, veterans and their families.

From now until mid-December, the public is invited to send cards with a personal message of gratitude and support.  Once received at the post office box listed below, the Red Cross and Pitney Bowes Inc. will deliver the cards to military bases and hospitals, veterans’ hospitals and other locations.

Alexander said, “As we prepare for the upcoming holidays and make plans to spend time with our families and friends, we must remember that this season is also a time to give back and to share our blessings with others. Compassion drives our nation to care for those who are less fortunate and for those who are unable to share Christmas with their loved ones. One of those groups who may be without family this time of year is the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

“The ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’ program provides a great way for Americans to extend messages of well wishes and appreciation to the heroes who serve and protect our country. During this season of hope and giving, I hope other Americans will join this effort so these men and women know our deep appreciation and heartfelt gratitude.”

Holiday cards should be addressed to Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456. Cards must be postmarked no later than December 7.  For a full list of recommended guidelines, please visit www.redcross.org/holidaymail.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
