Oversight

One of the main purposes of Congress is to serve as a check on the powers of the other two branches of the federal government. And with executive powers growing and expanding each and every day, this important role of Congress has never been more important.

I am concerned over the Executive Branch’s creation of many “czars,” positions that require no approval by Congress and have undefined authority and rankings within the government. This lack of transparency is troubling.

Moreover, the Congress must demand answers when the other branches of government do not live up to the expectations that are set out by the American people and the authorizations that are made by Congress. Recently, the Department of Justice’s “Fast and Furious” gun-running program has received much attention. While I am in Congress, I will continue to push for transparency and accountability in all branches of government.
