Budget

For too long, government has been recklessly spending money it doesn’t have, running up a staggering budget deficit and a debt that has now exceeded $15 trillion. This is unacceptable

With the release of the President’s fourth budget request, it was my hope he’d move in a new direction. But to little surprise, his plan, which still reflects a heavy tax-and-spend governing agenda, is more of the failed policies of the last three years.

Rather than presenting a feasible financial blueprint, the president offered a partisan plan that includes $1.9 trillion in new taxes, and over the next decade, government spending will total $47 trillion. To make matters worse, the tax increases will be used to finance more government spending instead of paying down our enormous, ever-growing debt.

I will use my spot on the House Appropriations Committee to dissect how taxpayer dollars will be spent. Hopefully, we can find ways to work together in areas of mutual agreement, and produce real solutions that address the biggest drivers of our unsustainable debt.

Without meaningful reform, our financial state will further regress. We must move beyond words and follow a budget that is within our means.
